Speaker 1:

So when your best friend says you need to have a disclaimer in the beginning of your podcast Because the lawyer in her is scurremin, you do it. Here's my disclaimer I am not a doctor, I am not a therapist, I am not even an expert. I am you. I am. Bring in information to you, as I see it, but don't take my advice. Make your own choices and make them good choices. On with the show.

Speaker 1:

Welcome to the podcast where we talk about cannabinox, community violation, code, green Plant, hi, and Welcome to my solo series, brought to you by Simply Vibein. So glad you came back. It's nice to talk to you again. I love doing this solo series. It's a lot of fun.

Speaker 1:

I wanted to start out and Let you know that this was a weekend of the mighty divas, and when I say mighty, I mean Legendary, absolutely legendary. I'd also like to start off with a PSA number one. I Don't ever Want to hear you say you are too old to do anything, not after what we saw this weekend, ever. The second thing I want to say is don't let anyone tell you what you can and cannot wear, or make sure you don't wear that act your age, ever, ever. The two divas that I am referring to and I'm betting you figured it out already is the mighty share and the fantastic Dolly. So we had share. Oh, let me also tell you if you don't already know which I bet you do they are both 77 years old. That means they were both born in 1946. Yeah, heard me right, 1946.

Speaker 1:

The first part of the day in the morning at the Macy's Day Parade, we had share. She came out and she absolutely Killed it. First of all, can we just talk about her body for a second Fantastic, okay. So she went out and she sang her song. Then we had the Dallas Cowboy game on and the halftime show was Dolly Parton. Okay, I have seen the tiktoks already about people just sitting there like, oh my god, she was in a Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders uniform like she. She had a body suit underneath, they had sparkles and shimmers on it and, okay. So I don't know many 20 and 30 and 40 and 50 year olds that can look like that. So for her to come out there and I've heard a little rum, oh, she had a, she had a stocking on, she had a body thing on and she wears them on her hands and blah, blah, blah. Great, I still would challenge you to put that on and see what you look like. She freaking killed it. I was up dancing and cheering and it was just. It warmed my heart.

Speaker 1:

So let's talk about the things that happened when they were born. Okay, cuz I had to know. I'm sure there's some really freaking cool things. First, we have business and economy US industry idled by widespread labor strikes. Federal government takes control of railroads. Xerox Photo copying process invented Okay. So in 1946 you were able to copy pictures and copy letters and copy all this stuff. That's freaking amazing. Tupperware was invented Okay, so that's a huge thing, because Pretty much every household in America uses Tupperware. Oh, zippity-doo-da, zippity-yay. I don't know if you remember that song, but I, I danced and so of course I was, I was into tap and stuff like that. So that's one of the songs that was kind of popular. So those were some of the fun facts that happened the year that Cher and Dolly Parton were born.

Speaker 1:

It makes me like when you, when you sit back and you think about it, it's like everybody's afraid of aging, everybody is it's, nobody really wants to do it. You know, you're afraid that your body's gonna fall apart. You're, you're afraid that you're not gonna be attractive anymore. People tell you you look good for your age. I mean, who wants to hear that? Like thanks. But no, like I won't say that to somebody. I'm never gonna say if they tell me their age and it's shocking I'm never gonna say you look good for that age because I just I don't like to Put it in a box like you look good period, you look good period. So, if anything, I find this happening to be so amazing for us.

Speaker 1:

Like no longer Do we have to sit there and get old, like we can do what we want to do, we can be who we want to be. We can start over at 50, like I am. I'm 50 and I never once thought I am too old to podcast. I am too old to have my own business, I am too old for anything. I don't care, you know. So I don't want you to care. I just don't want you to ever look at yourself as less than just because you're a little bit older than other people. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter because I can tell you if you, if you interview 60 year old women or men for that matter if you interview them and you say how old do you feel. Not one of them is going to tell you the age that they actually are. No one, because none of us do. You know, it's like you look in the mirror like, oh, there I am. You know, of course you see the age there, but you never feel that. And you should keep going with your passion and whatever you wanna do, no matter what age you are. So promise me from this moment on that you will never, ever tell yourself you're too old to do something because you're not. You're not Challenge yourself. If anything, you have the wisdom now to share. You have the. You're smarter than you were in your 20s. You just are. That's how I feel.

Speaker 1:

I know that I could not have my solo series, the direction that I'm going, had I not lived through what I've lived through. I had to go through that to be able to share my experiences with you and, in part, whatever knowledge I've gained from it with you. And the only way to do that is to live and to age and to get there with grace and then turn around and share it with other people. I know I am so interested when I see this old couple. They're like they've been together 50 years and they get interviewed and they're saying what is it? Do you have any regrets? What would you share with people? Every time I listen to one of those, they always say get up and do it, don't wait for the right time, do it now. And their regret is not taking action when they could physically take action. We have no excuse. Take action. You know that little quote buy the shoes. Life is short, buy the shoes. Life is short, live it. That's my quote. Life is short, live it, okay.

Speaker 1:

So now that we're talking about dreams and fulfilling them and walking through it and taking action, I'm excited to say the countdown is on for my solo series, love you, miss you, bye. We have five more shows, so the countdown is on. We are on episode five right now, and so we're gonna count down together and when we get to one, hop on the new channel with me and check out LUMUB Hope you'll be there. So I prerecord these episodes. I will typically record them a week prior. So I'm sitting here in the living room. There's a room full of family members. We've eaten pie, we've eaten turkey, we're stuffed to high hell. People are tired. We played like phase 10, which is a card game, for hours and it was just good just hanging out and not thinking about anything and just spending time with each other. But of course I'm always thinking about my podcast. I just it's 24 seven for me.

Speaker 1:

So my brother's here, my brother John and he, you know he's got a lot of editing experience. He's made movies, he's won awards, he's been in Sundance like he was in the thick of stuff. He was there. He's been a part of writing movies. So of course I want to share that with him so that I can get his opinion on what I've done and how it's going. And yeah, he was impressed and that made me really happy, emily, because he's a professional. You know he's in another industry now, but he's a professional and he knows way more than I know. I mean, I'm just like a total amateur. It's over him to like it. It meant a lot to me.

Speaker 1:

So of course I'm like hey, John, want to come do an intro with me? Do you want to just do something like 10 seconds worth of something, and then I'll throw that in as the intro. And he was like yeah, man, let's do it. So I have some fun recordings that I did right before this and we'll see if any of them work. So John and I had a lot of fun recording these outtakes. I haven't played it for myself yet, so I figured I would just put it right here so you can hear how absolutely crazy we both are. I thought it'd be fun.

Speaker 1:

So take a listen to John and I trying to come up with my intro. I don't know which part we're using, I don't know what's happening, but you're going to see the history and the forming of the intro for Love. You Miss you. Bye, check it out. All right, ready. Mm-hmm, here we go. Take one Christie's podcast. I'll try to make more LUM UP, super cheesy, good, oh, so I don't have a chance. Get Christie is so stupid. But wait, what about? Like, all right, ready, we're just gonna sing in harmony. I like that one. Oh, why, it's good, I gotta learn your rhythm. Lum UP, christie's podcast. I think you got something there, okay, what'd you think? I know you're right, it's. It's insane. Wish me luck with that.

Speaker 1:

One of the other things that John was giving me his advice on was the fact you know they tell you okay, so they tell you to niche down. They tell you to niche down so that you can find your audience and and go from there. It's hard for me to niche down obviously I now have to create a whole new podcast, but it's hard for me to niche down. And I was telling him this next podcast is really gonna be women focused. And so you know, for SEO and to type into podcasts, if anybody types in women or woman, you know it should pull my podcast.

Speaker 1:

And he was telling me not to do that. He was telling me that why would you isolate it to just that? And he's not wrong, and I was just more thinking of like a, an SEO function, search engine optimization but he disagrees. He's like Joe Rogan doesn't say this is the man's podcast. And he's not wrong, he doesn't. It's just something that you kind of know, although I kind of like Joe Rogan, like I listen to him, and that's Probably because he doesn't say this is a man's podcast. So maybe I shouldn't do that.

Speaker 1:

I'm not really sure, I Don't know. I don't know, I Don't know. I love you, miss you by. Is is open to men and women. Okay, let me just put that out there. It's open to everyone. I don't care what you look like, I don't care what you sound like, I don't care what you're wearing. Everyone is welcome.

Speaker 1:

I was just thinking I would niche down to women, because I'm a woman and I talked to women mostly, but it doesn't mean I have to exclude anyone, and that's definitely what I don't want to do. Plus, I kind of want to have some men speakers and some men guests, you know, so that we can all learn from them too. So I don't know how to know man Figuring this all out, we'll see where I end up, because I know last week I was like, oh yeah, it's gonna be women focused, and now this week I'm questioning that Because maybe I don't have to say it. He's like it's. How did he put it? He's just like you don't have to say it. You just don't have to say it. Yeah, maybe I don't have to say it. I don't know. I don't know plenty to think about. I do want to say one last thing on these powerful women, and this includes you ask yourself what makes you feel young, beautiful and unstoppable.

Speaker 1:

What is it? What brings that out in you? And then Do it. And if you're not doing it, ask yourself why. What would be the reason that you wouldn't fulfill something that makes you feel all those things? I mean, get a piece of paper out, write it down, write down what is stopping you. Why don't you do it? Don't you do it? And I don't know what it is. Maybe you have a beautiful singing voice, maybe you can draw, maybe you're good at a podcast, maybe you're a writer and you're like I'm not gonna write this because I haven't had professional training. Screw it, do it, do it. I'm telling you, I am so much happier Now that I have this. It fulfills, it awakens that dormant area in my soul and I know that sounds so just Full of shit, but it's not. It's not full of shit, it's not Makes me happy. I just want you to feel the same.

Speaker 1:

So, now that I've covered all those fantastic things, I Did some research. I figured I'm on the legendary women kick and, and so I was like let me go find some articles that mesh Women in cannabis that are hot right now. I found a couple. The first article I was actually sent this article twice, two times, from two different people, because they knew I was gonna be shocked and surprised by it. So I figured I'd share it with you and you and my reaction may actually surprise you.

Speaker 1:

This was in the Washington Post. This is about a Texas woman who's trying to go on a carnival cruise ship and she gets a lifetime ban from ever going on a cruise again because she had CBD hemp derived Gummies in her bag. So from what the article said, I guess she was going through security. They saw something in her bag not the gummies specifically, but something else that prompted them to open up the suitcase. When they opened it up they found the gummies and because hemp may not be legal in all the ports that they're stopping in, they stopped her from getting on her. I guess her son and husband got on the cruise ship and she couldn't. She wasn't able to go. So she is suing for a full refund plus attorney fees and my opinion is she was wrong.

Speaker 1:

I know right Ms Cannabis advocate here saying that this woman is wrong for gummies that are legal. It's not the gummy part that I'm disagreeing with, it's the fact that she didn't look to see where she was going and if it was legal in those areas. You know I don't blame them, I don't blame Carnival at all, but I do think a lifetime ban for this is a bit excessive. You know, I'm thinking like maybe you should say until it's legalized in all the different places we're going, we're not gonna be able to have you on Carnival or a couple of years ban. I feel like hemp which is not psychoactive, does not get you high, will be legalized everywhere and should be. It's that part is ridiculous. Okay, it's absolutely ridiculous. She was taking it for sleep. She wanted to be able to sleep and I get that, because being on a cruise ship got those waves going and she was afraid that she wouldn't be able to sleep. Totally get it, but I think when you're doing things that aren't in the United States, you need to look at the laws. So, unfortunately for this Texas woman, I'm sorry you didn't get to go on the cruise, but yeah, maybe there's another cruise ship you can go on and make sure you check the laws wherever you're going. If you're gonna bring gummies, but something tells me she won't, she's absolutely not gonna do this again. But again, I'm not her. Maybe she won't, I don't know.

Speaker 1:

The next article I saw, so these were like headlines I was scrolling, so everything that's in within the last two days are these article headers. Lady Like Cannabis. It's an article on Fox 10, phoenix and it kind of talks about how the industry is really missing a very important part of the market, which is women. They don't focus on women when it comes to cannabis. I'm not sure what it is, but I hate to tell you that women also like their edibles and their smoke and their oils. You're missing a huge market.

Speaker 1:

Lady Like is being displayed. It's called the Flower Shop and it's like all pink containers and it's just, you know, cutesy and more women focused. The product is the same, it's just the packaging and the branding, and so they're trying to get the attention of women, which I think is a really, really good thing. You know, honestly, at this point I don't know if I'm really even looking at the packaging, because I know too much about it. I'm all about what cannabinoids are in it, how much is in it, where was it grown? What is the reporting, the COA, the certificate of authentication, like. Let me see the reporting. That's really what I care about the most. I don't care about the packaging that much, but I would be if I had three different products lined up and one of them was pink or my favorite color, which is red. If one of them was pink and one of them was red and geared towards women, with maybe a flower on it or something. I would probably pick that up if all the reporting was the same and the cannabinoids were the same. So there's that In this article, though they say Gen Z, women are the fastest growing cannabis consumers.

Speaker 1:

Things are gonna change. I mean, I'm interested to see how this plays out. But don't miss the market, man. You've got money there. You're just leaving money on the table. So I saw Ladylike, which is a women focused brand, and it made me think of Whoopi Goldberg, because she had a women focused brand centralized on like menopause and menstrual cramps and things to help those symptoms. They did, and she had a business partner and I think there was some kind of issue falling out. I'm not sure exactly what happened. It's really none of my business, but the brand no longer exists right now. I know that Whoopi Goldberg is gonna be coming out with another brand, I'm just not sure if it's for women or just focused on women specifically.

Speaker 1:

Phoebe and I had actually recorded a women parts, more or less, episode where we talk about period and we talk about menstrual cramps and menopause and just the things that plague women nowadays, and the sound was jacked up and I have it. It's recorded, but I just feel like we should record it again, because we need to give it the quality it deserves, because I feel like there are women that really need this information. So I wanna treat it with care and respect and just give it the best we can. So we're gonna rerecord that one. It's coming, so it'll be coming out soon.

Speaker 1:

I did pull up an article. It's in Green State and it's how cannabis changed my menopause experience, which I was like, yeah, I've kind of already talked about this, but I think that it needs a little spotlight. This was actually published November 24th 2023. So I love that because that means they're starting to focus a little bit more on it. It starts off the article by saying many aspects of women's health remain shrouded in stigma, all too often preventing us from having open, honest discussions about our experiences. Nobody talks about it. I actually feel just a little bit weird talking about it. The other thing I don't think it reflected I don't know why. I think because when I was younger and the word period came up, it was like, you know, snickers and the oh, don't let the boys hear, and it's just weird and that's how I grew up and I hate it. I always interrupt myself.

Speaker 1:

Manipause was perhaps the most unknown to me, besides a vague understanding of my period stopping in my 40s or 50s. I had very few realistic expectations of this in my life. Okay, so I am going to be completely transparent with you. I stopped having my period about a year ago. So I'm going through these experiences and I know a lot of people are frigging nervous, you know, like how's my body going to react? Some of the horror stories that I've heard are your body's changing. You're never going to have a young body again. You have raging moods like complete ups and downs, and you're just like wow to everybody. The other thing was restless nights, night sweats, hot flashes, sleeping issues. It's just, we could go on and on and on and on. That's terrifying. Okay, that's terrifying.

Speaker 1:

So you know, I had really, really, really, really bad periods as a teenager. I had to go to the hospital, I had to be on prescription medicine. I was just a mess, like it had it, and it just took me out and it was really bad. I hated it until I had a baby. And then, after I had my first child, I was fine. I never had any problems again. So thank God for the baby. That's all I have to say, because I was miserable, absolutely miserable.

Speaker 1:

A flip side of that is, right now, I don't know, I don't know what stage I'm in. If you hear it's been a year that's kind of the time clock they give you that you don't have your period. That means you are in menopause. So I guess I'm in menopause. I mean I guess I don't have a problem sleeping. I think I'm not a raging lunatic. Last I check, I mean you can ask my friends. They may tell you differently, but I don't think I am. I don't have restless nights. I sleep like a freaking log. I don't have night sweats. I did, I did have night sweats.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to say, maybe a year and a half ago, maybe two years ago, I was having a little bit of night sweats, but it wasn't anything that would cause me to be alarmed or cause me to go to my doctor. I haven't had to go to my doctor at all on this. I mean I've talked to my doctor about it but nothing like I feel. Fine, I don't know. But you know everybody is different, so everybody may react totally differently than I am. I kind of credit it to. Okay. This is where I use my disclaimer. I don't know if this is true or not. This is just my opinion based on the things I've done for myself.

Speaker 1:

But I started intermittent fasting in 2016 when I was trying to, you know, just try different things. I was finding myself, I was trying to be healthy for myself and a lot of the research that I did on intermittent fasting again, this is my opinion was that it helps with menopause. I know, right, I started reading about it you know it was 42, 43, and I started reading about it and I was like you know why not? Because we are feeding ourselves three meals a day, probably four if you add a snack in there, and your body doesn't have time to just kind of breathe and repair anything that's going on. So I started doing that in 2016 and I kind of do it now. I don't even really think about it.

Speaker 1:

Where I will get up, I will have my coffee black. Okay, I'm like I don't have it black all the time. I like heavy whipping cream in my coffee, which is something my stepmom started kind of got me into, because I come to her house and she's like try this and I loved it. I loved it. So it's kind of my treat for the day is to, you know, do my coffee and then put a little heavy whipping cream in it, and so that's really not fully fasting. Had I not added the whipping cream, I would be set Okay.

Speaker 1:

So for me, what I do is I was doing back in 2016, black coffee every morning and I would not eat anything till noon, and then it was on. I could have whatever I wanted, do whatever I wanted, and then I just had a cut off time where I couldn't eat at a certain time, which I think is good for everybody, because you don't wanna like sleep with this full stomach and you're not being active. So I totally felt that that part was definitely a good way to go. So now what I do and it's not every morning, but most of the mornings I'll get up, I'll have a cup of coffee and then I'll put a little heavy whipping cream in it and then I won't eat again until like 12, one o'clock, and then I'll go home and have dinner and that's it Like. And I'm not hungry, I'm not hungry. You're only hungry when you first start.

Speaker 1:

So I would say, after you do it for like three weeks, then that hunger goes away. It's just your body being used to something all the time. But once you change that up, you know, and I'm not stuffed, it's like I'm more clear-headed when I don't have breakfast, it's like I'm sharper. I'd rather have those meetings right there in the morning and I'm not full of food and my body's working hard to you know, to digest. That I don't know. This is just my own philosophy. I mean, you do what you wanna do, but I think, because I did that and have been doing that for years, my metabolism changed and it also changed because now I'm repairing my body, I'm giving it time to breathe, I'm giving it time to work out its issues and it seems to be working for me. It may not work for you you should talk to your doctor, absolutely but I'm happy because I'm here and I don't have any of these things and I feel like I hope I'm done. Trust me, if I'm not done, I'm going to tell you like we're gonna work through this together.

Speaker 1:

Anyway, I was reading an article to you and you know I get sidetracked, as usual. So right here it says how to ease into cannabis use for menopause, for menopausal women looking to begin their exploration into cannabis. There are a few things that I would recommend doing to get the best possible results. To start, women should keep a journal. Okay, I agree, women need to keep a journal. I believe that you need to keep a journal when you're experimenting with cannabis as well as all these other things. Did I do it? No, I didn't. I did not keep a journal for menopause, but I feel like I'm already through it. So I should have. I should have, because then maybe I could share it with my daughter and you guys and have much more information on all the signs that I was going through. That maybe I didn't see, but if I was to start a cannabis journey for sleep or for anxiety, I would definitely keep a journal, because I wanna know what my dosage is for certain cannabinoids so that I can get the right one that works for me. So a journal highly recommend.

Speaker 1:

Keep this journal by the bed and take notes on your experience Nights that you didn't sleep well, hot flashes throughout the day or when you woke up, days your brain feels foggy yeah, I didn't even mention that Brain fog is a real thing. Notes like these will help you establish your baseline and thus be able to target your specific symptoms. Next, you're ready to incorporate cannabis. Start small. Cannabis affects everyone differently. So start with a low dose and see how your body handles it. Go back into your journal and note how the cannabis makes you feel alongside your symptoms. Then slowly increase your dose until it's low enough that you don't feel high, but substantial enough that you achieve results. Keeping track of your experience with menopause and cannabis can help you tailor your products to you. From there you can begin to explore different formulations and product types depending on your needs. From edibles and flour to tinctures and vapes, cannabis can directly help you.

Speaker 1:

Cbn is really really a great cannabinoid for sleep and if you're struggling with these symptoms and you can't sleep because you're uncomfortable for whatever reason, cbn that's the cannabinoid you want. I gave it to my dad. He's 70, he was having trouble sleeping and I was like let's go into the dispensary. We found CBN and he loved it. It worked wonders for him. Highly recommend CBN if you're having trouble sleeping. But there's other things, you know. Maybe you are raging, maybe you are in a freaking bad mood and you already know cannabis is gonna relax you, it's gonna relax your mind, it's going to relax your body, it's going to make you feel better.

Speaker 1:

It did wanna say Christmas is coming. Do you have your list ready. Have you done your shopping? I have not, you know, because I get. Where I work, they give us a bonus, a cash bonus, every, not cash. They don't give us cash, they give us into your direct deposit. They give us a bonus and it comes around the middle of December. So I don't know what it's gonna be yet, but I'm going to take that and buy Christmas presents. So last minute I'm totally down. I'm totally fine with that. I have no problem with that. Don't get better presents if it's extra money beyond my paycheck.

Speaker 1:

I am a credit manager for a large company and, yeah, I have a team of nine. So this is my night job, my weekend job, my side hustle. But just between you and me, I'm ready to leave the other job. I wanna work for myself. I so wanna work for myself. I wanna do this full time, like I would do an episode every day if the followers were there. So help me out, help me leave my job.
